



Lagos to expand BRT routes to Ikorodu

The Lagos State Government has commenced work on the expansion of its Bus Rapid Transit services to Ikorodu town, north east of Lagos.
It is also making arrangements to deploy 200 additional buses on the BRT routes.
Governor Babatunde Fashola, said this on Sunday at a meeting with the operators of the transport scheme.
A statement on Tuesday by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, the regulator of the scheme, quoted the governor as saying, “We want to extend to Ikorodu town and we are appraising the designs and costing for the extension.”
Besides the BRT routes, he said there were other routes where government would designate priority lanes during peak hours and only high capacity buses would be allowed to use them.
He said the state had written to the Federal Government requesting the transfer of the Ijora Works Yard for use as depots to stow buses.
He added that a contract for the repair and strengthening of BRT lanes and resurfacing of the service lanes along Ikorodu Road had been awarded and stressed, “We want to see how quickly the contractor can move to site.”
Fashola, however, frowned at the driving habits of some of the bus drivers, particularly those who drove above the permitted speed limit for the buses, which had |
